Do you get scared of wishing for the monsoon season just because of the hair problems you have to face? Well, we can relate. As lovely as the monsoon season is for our eyes, it can be havoc for our hair. Dryness, frizz and increased hair fall are just some of these problems.
Why does hair fall increase in monsoon season?
Studies have shown that hair fall increases by 30 percent during the monsoon season and one of the two major reasons for that are humidity and nutrition deficiency. Humidity rips off our scalps of their natural oils which results in a dry scalp and weak roots. On the nutritional side of things, we need to have a diet rich in iron, zinc and protein. Lack of biotin (type of vitamin B) and zinc is one of the major reasons for hair loss. We can’t do much about the former but we can definitely fulfill the nutritional requirements for our hair.
Well we are here with a way with which you can enjoy the rainy season without having to deal with your hair loss problem. Popular nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, in her latest Instagram post, has shared 3 superfoods that can help with our hair loss problem this monsoon season.
1. Methi dana (Fenugreek)
If along with monsoon, a hormonal issue like Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is triggering your hair fall then methi dana will be helpful as it helps improve the insulin response. They are rich in vitamins A, C and K and also have high content of proteins and folic acid essential for hair. You can add methi dana to some warm coconut oil and massage it into your scalp or you can include it in your diet by adding it to kadhi, khichdi, raita or tadkas.
2. Aliv seeds
Aliv seeds are a very rich source of iron. Its high iron content not only makes it good to prevent hair loss but they are also recommended for people who are anemic. Aliv seeds also prevent hair loss that comes as a side effect to chemo treatments. You can soak these seeds and have them with milk at night or you can make some delicious yet healthy laddoos by mixing them with ghee and coconut!
3. Nutmeg (Jaiphal)
Nutmeg or jaiphal is rich in vitamin B6, folic acid and magnesium which helps in preventing hair loss. It also allows you to de-stress. Stress is often the reason for increased hair fall and hence, it prevents that. You can add a small pinch of nutmeg powder to milk and have it at night.
You should also increase your intake of ghee, haldi (turmeric) and dahi (curd) in the monsoon season.
