Being a little sleepy during work hours may not have been a big concern if you were working from home. You could always squeeze in a nap. However, feeling tired and sleepy in an office environment may be different. As we grapple with the changes in the post-pandemic world and resume work-from-office models, we ought to know how to stop feeling sleepy at work.
Your daily energy levels and productivity at work undoubtedly depend on your diet, and the amount of sleep you may have had the night before. Lack of sleep will inevitably lead to drowsiness. You may have watery eyes and may keep yawning too!
Conversely, if you get enough sleep but still feel exhausted and sleepy at work, the reason can be probably a poor diet. Dehydration increases with little sleep, which has a direct effect on how well you perform. Lack of adequate hydration might make you feel lethargic or weak and you may end up doing nothing.
You also feel more lethargic after you have your lunch and so, it becomes increasingly difficult to attend meetings at work or lectures in school or college after lunch. There are a few distinct reasons for feeling sleepy after eating.

Some of the things you eat may cause the generation of hormones that could fatigue you. Sometimes, blood sugar levels increase after a meal. Insulin enters the bloodstream to remove blood sugar and deliver it to the cells for energy. Your level of exhaustion may be impacted if you don’t have enough insulin or if your blood sugar levels rise. Additionally, how much you eat can have an impact.
But sometimes, using certain pressure points in your body can help you to stop feeling sleepy, yoga and naturopathy expert Dr. Ankita Dhelia shared on Instagram.

Some other ways to avoid sleepiness:
1. Go for a walk before work
Before you go for work, get some exercise and fresh air can help you stay awake. If you go for a walk when the sun is up, it will help you become more aware.
2. Have some caffeine
Drinking a cup of coffee, tea or another caffeinated beverage can give your senses a quick but powerful boost. But how much caffeine is necessary for you? It differs from person to person depending on how sensitive you are to caffeine. It’s advised not to consume too much caffeine in a day as it can be unhealthy.
3. Stay hydrated
Drink plenty of water as it will help you stay awake. Lack of hydration may make you feel sleepy. So, it’s better to drink water from time to time.
4. Follow a sleep schedule
If you will take a good 6-hour sleep every night, you will reduce your chances of feeling sleepy at your workplace. So, don’t try to run on 2-3 hours of sleep as it can make you less productive.
Try these ways to get through the day and to stop feeling sleepy. If your fatigue lasts for more than a few weeks, rule out a serious condition by seeing a doctor.
